Career Intern Program

The United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in North Dakota has periodic openings for positions such as Soil Conservationist, Rangeland Management Specialist, Agronomist, Soil Scientist, and Civil or Agricultural Engineers. 

The Career Intern Program will prepare exceptional men and women who have diverse professional experiences, academic training, and competencies for careers in public service.  Interns will participate in a two-year program that is designed to fine tune their skills and abilities.  This is a full time position with full benefits.  At the end of the two-year period, successful employees may be placed in career or career-conditional positions with the agency.  The purpose of the program is to provide the agency with a cadre of skilled individuals to fill more responsible positions in the sciences and in administrative/professional areas at the end of the internships.

Student Career Experience Program (SCEP)

You can make a difference in the conservation of our natural resources.  We’re looking for intelligent and motivated students who want to share their ideas and talents.  The Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) can offer you the opportunity to be part of this conservation effort.

The Student Career Experience Program combines paid study-related employment with periods of formal educational study.  Students are given the chance to apply their academic studies to their on-the-job experience and earn academic credit for their work experience based on their school’s cooperative education program policy.

Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP)

The Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) is a federal program that employs students in any occupation on a temporary basis.  This developmental position is designed to provide a variety of training experience in the application of soil and water conservation practices.
