Beaver Creek (Lake Oahe) Watershed
Description of Watershed
The total estimated area in the watershed is 662,937 acres. This watershed is located in parts of Emmons, Logan, and McIntosh Counties
located in South Central North Dakota.
The land uses in this watershed consist of rangeland, dry cropland, pastureland and irrigated cropland. The topography ranges from nearly level to gently rolling along with areas of steep or broken landscapes. Native grasses cover the areas of steep or broken topography, while cultivated and forage crops dominate other parts of the landscape. The soils range from moderately well drained, and loamy and clayey throughout the watershed.
In cropland areas of the watershed, there are about 481 farms covering about 514,738 acres. The average size farm is 1,070 acres. Primary crops include wheat, corn, sunflowers, barley, and oats. Other crops include soybeans, flax, and canola.
In rangeland areas of the watershed, the average farm consists of about 560 acres of grazing lands covering about 269,500 acres. Ranches are mostly cow/calf and beef yearling production and dairy operations.
Pastureland in the watershed comprises about 5,600 acres. Much of this is improved pasture grass species such as bromegrass and intermediate wheatgrass.
